Biofilm on Teeth

Biofilms consist of various living microorganisms which are held together by an extracellular matrix that is produced by the organisms themselves.  Biofilms form naturally on many surfaces, including the teeth. In the absence of poor oral care, biofilm on the teeth will continue to grow and harden, eventually turning into plaque. The bacteria in plaque are well protected and can wreak havoc on your teeth and gums, and if left unchecked, will lead to bad breath, periodontal disease, cavities and tooth loss .

Chronic Halitosis

Bad breath can be caused by certain foods, smoking or systemic disease.  However, more often it is due to poor oral hygiene or gum disease. The warm, moist environment of the mouth, with many hidden spaces, is richly populated with more than 500 different types of bacteria. These microorganisms feed on leftover food particles and naturally occurring sulfur containing proteins.  Bacteria digest these proteins, which in turn produce the familiar rotten egg smelling gasses known as volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs). If you don’t get rid of the bacteria, you can’t get rid of the bad breath.

Gum Disease

Almost half, (47.2%), of all adults aged 30 years and older have some form of gum disease. (1) In its early stages, gingivitis can be recognized by inflamed and bleeding gums. In more advanced stages of gum disease, known as periodontitis, your gums pull away from the teeth, forming pockets where bacteria build up, causing the gums to recede. This exposes the supporting tissues and bone structures of the teeth which can lead to increased inflammation, tooth pain and eventually tooth loss.

It is now believed that the bacteria in these pockets can access the blood stream and travel to other parts of the body, possibly leading to such other health problems as diabetes, heart disease, dementia, arthritis, complications during pregnancy, erectile dysfunction and reduced fertility (2) . If you’ve noticed that your gums bleed when you brush or floss, it’s time to take action before it’s too late. Maintaining a good oral health care routine can make a world of difference to your overall health.

How Frontier’s DioxiCare® System Can Help

Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is the active ingredient in Frontier’s DioxiRinse Mouthwash and DioxiBrite Toothpaste. DioxiCare® is Frontier’s proprietary chlorine dioxide technology. With this unique formula, chlorine dioxide is produced  immediately upon mixture, and at the correct concentration. No waiting and no guesswork!

Chlorine dioxide is  tailor made to address the above mentioned oral care concerns. ClO2 is well known as an effective biofilm remover. It works by breaking the bonds of the biofilm matrix. Chlorine dioxide quickly oxidizes bacteria, virus, fungus and yeast that cause bad breath and other issues , it  neutralizes the existing volatile sulfur compounds, as well as the proteins used to make the VSCs, and reduces inflammation. By combining our DioxiBrite® Toothpaste and DioxiRinse® Mouthwash you will be one step closer to keeping bilfilm in check and eliminating that pesky bad breath and not just masking over it.

If you’d like to make your oral health a priority in order to avoid frustrating problems down the line, it all starts with Frontier Pharmaceutical! Shop the DioxiCare® collection here!
